Gabriel

Today I learned, by accident, while reading reviews of the movie The Message, to my very surprise, that Gabriel, the name of the archangel, is the equivalent of "Cebrail" in Turkish, and "جِبْريل " in Arabic (reads as Jibrīl).

Other examples (that I already knew):

  • Noah, Nuh, نوح
  • Jesus, İsa, عيسى

And so on. Across most languages.

This is one of those facts that you can easily figure out by a little thought and pattern matching but you won't notice until a moment like this arrives. I somehow missed it even though I speak the aforementioned languages. Abrahamic religions and their people, not only share names (and the persons owning those names and their stories), but a lot of culture and tradition as well. I must take note of this.
